Chain stitch/foundation chain

NOTE
You want to make sure that you can fit your hook through the holes in your stitches (chains). If not. Then your stitches are too tight, and you should probably  start over with a bigger crochet hook or by wiggling your hook to loosen it up. If you feel like your stitches are too loose, you should probably pull on your working yarn (the strand connected to the ball, skein, or hank) or use a smaller crochet hook.
